SUMMER MAILER – Sent via email on July 8, 2021

July 6, 2021

Dear Students and Families of St. Therese Academy,

I hope this letter finds you enjoying your summer.  Continuing the tradition of excellence that has been a part of St. Therese Academy for over 60 years will remain a top goal.  I am looking forward to the new school year and returning to a year that is better than normal.

Please welcome Mrs. Nicole Lange who will be teaching our 4th graders. Also, please welcome Mr. Chris Lamb who will be our Athletic Director/PE coach and will also be assisting with our Junior High instruction. In addition, I am very excited about our new PE coach Mr. Alex Dimauro. I am confident you will thoroughly enjoy their personalities and expertise. Our entire 2021-2022 staff will continue the tradition of excellence that STA families have come to know and appreciate.

It remains imperative that we recognize the importance of integrating 21st century skills in curriculum planning, maintain high academic standards, and continue to improve our religious education.  This coming year we have continued to add curriculum to enhance our schoolwide educational program. Our computer lab has been updated and the older hardware replaced. The water in our drinking fountains has been tested by an independent California State Certified Laboratory for analysis and has been approved for safe drinking.  In addition, there are many other “small” improvements/projects that are being completed during this summer.

Mask mandates for schools by our local government and diocese has not been finalized. We will keep you informed of updates and pray for a mask free opening.

Carefully look at the items in our SUMMER MAILER. These items can be found on the FORMS tab of our school website. The mailer includes the following items for your attention:

  1. The yearly calendar, which will be especially helpful in planning
  2. August/September detailed calendar
  3. Daily Schedule for the regular school day
  4. Classroom supply lists
  5. Dress Code information (note changes)
  6. Share N’ Care information and a Share N’ Care Release Form – due by August 16
  7. Emergency Card (one for each child) – due by August 16
  8. Photo Release Form – due by August 16
  9. For Kinders/New First graders ONLY – School Entry Health Checkup Form – due by August 16
  10. Uniform Sale information and order form
  11. Immunization record for all New Students, Kinder and 7th graders must be up to date and submitted by August 16. Students will not be able to attend school until the updated records have been received.
  12. After School Program offerings for K-8
  13. Ki’s Schoolwide Hot Lunch program information

Kindergarteners and seventh grade students, as well as those students who have had changes to their immunization forms, MUST provide the school with a copy of the yellow immunization card before your child may attend classes. In addition, the emergency card must also be returned to the school by August 16.

The first day of school is Monday, August 23 from 8:00am-3:05pm and it is a regular Dress Day. School drop-off for preschool-8 students will be from 7:30am-8:00am. Morning assembly will follow. Please do not drop off students before 7:30am as there will not be any supervision.

PE days will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays for the entire year.  The first noon dismissal is during the second week of school and will be on the first Friday, September 3. Share N’ Care will be available beginning on the first day of school. Share N’ Care will close at 5:30pm each day. Share N’ Care is billed in 15-minute increments at $10/hour per child.

For those of you who have 8th graders attending this Fall, we are looking at the possibility of continuing our traditional DC/New York trip for 8th graders. The cost at this point is tentatively $2500 all inclusive.  This trip is extremely educational and fun. More information regarding this trip will be available at our mandatory 8th grade parent meeting on Wednesday, November 17 at 6pm in Room 8. Please mark your calendar!

Our summer office hours will be from 9-Noon, Tuesday-Thursday. Regular office hours, 7:45am-3:45pm will resume on August 9. However, due to staff meetings, I suggest you call the office to see if we are in meetings before you come by. If you have any questions, please call Mrs. Salaz at 619-583-6270.

Forms due by August 16 can either be mailed back to the school, dropped off in the mail slot, or returned to the office during office hours.  Thank you for ensuring that these forms are returned before the deadline.

All documents/forms can be found on our website at www.sta-sd.org/forms

I look forward to working together again to make 2021-2022 the best year yet!

Mr. Mark Sperrazzo

Principal

7th Grade Class of 2021-2022 Please submit your immunization record

Please email a copy of your child’s immunization record to Mrs. Gorney at     dgorney@sta-sd.org

California state law requires all 7th grade students to have the following immunizations documented in their school student file:

  • Whooping Cough (Tdap) booster vaccine (received on/after 7th birthday)

  • 2 doses of MMR vaccine (doses must have been received on/after 1st birthday)

  • 2 doses of the Varicella (chickenpox) vaccine

Since your child will be advancing to 7th grade in the fall, these requirements pertain to you. Most children will have already received these immunizations during their annual visits with their pediatrician in grades 3-5.

Please know that your child legally cannot attend the first day of school if proof of these immunizations has not been received by STA. Please help us…send in your immunization record today. If you are notified of missing immunizations, please schedule an appointment as soon as possible. Your neighborhood Walgreens, Rite Aid or CVS can administer immunizations. Thank you for your help!

Blessings,

Mrs. Gorney

Principal’s Corner 3-24-2020

Although I am at a loss for words that could capture the magnitude of our reality, I am eager to share the enthusiasm of our teachers and staff as our distance learning plan evolves to include our current curriculum. This has never been done before, nor has any educator been prepared for this moment. In concern for, and responsible to, your children, please know we are doing everything we can to provide the best quality in distance learning for as long as this global crisis is in effect. This has been my commitment, and that of our teachers, who are doing amazing work, as they too have the same concerns as all of us for their own families.

These are tough times, but nothing we can’t handle together. My suggestion as a leader, to all other leaders and parents, is to be people of hope and love, as we are all in this together!  If we are really looking around, there are family opportunities to be had. Take the time with your family and find a way to enjoy them and spend quality time with them. These circumstances will end, and we will be better people because of it. Put the worry aside and focus on the things that can be done and with those you love, your family at home. And yes, pray in faith in the truth the Lord is with us, that sooner rather than later we will be able to return to the way of life we all struggle to provide for our children and family.

Prayer for a Pandemic
(A Prayer for the World’s Most Vulnerable)
Cameron Wiggins Belim

May we who are merely inconvenienced
remember those whose lives are at stake.

May we who have no risk factors
remember those most vulnerable.

May we who have the luxury of working from home
remember those who must choose between preserving their health or making the rent.

May we who have the flexibility to care for our children when their schools close

remember those who have no options.

May we who have to cancel our trips
remember those that have no safe place to go.

May we who are losing our margin money in the tumult of the economic market

remember those who have no margin at all.

May we who settle in for a quarantine at home
remember those who have no home.

As fear grips our country,
Let us choose love.

During this time when we cannot physically wrap our arms around each other,
Let us yet find ways to be the loving embrace of God to our neighbors.

Amen

Creating Your User Account

Creating a user account on our website is very similar to any e-commerce website. It requires your name (the parent), address and email account. When you check out it will ask for your credit card information (which is not saved on our website); the address you enter when you create the account should equal the billing address for your credit card, however you do not have to enter your address. If the address is left blank you will be required to enter it each time you use your credit card.

Simply click on “Create New Account” and a new account form will appear. After you have submitted your user information you will log in to the new account.

From here you will add Member accounts for each family member who will participate in our lunch program. For your children use the “Add Student” button, if you are a staff member or you volunteer at the school and would like lunch delivered there use the “Add Staff” button for yourself.

Creating Member Accounts (for ordering)

From your Ordering page you will create a Member account for each family member who will participate in the school lunch program. Use the Add Student button to add a student member, use the Add Staff button to add an adult. Use the pull downs to select your child’s school, grade and/or teacher’s name.

Adding Money to Your Account

From your Ordering page you can also add money to your account and then make your purchases from the account. This feature is especially nice if you have older children who would like to order for themselves, you can put money on the account and they can shop without needing the credit card information in order to check out. From your Ordering page click on “Add money to my account”, a credit card form will appear allowing you to securely enter your credit card information and select the amount of money you would like to put on your Ki’s School Lunches account.

The credit card encryption company charges $.50 each time you make a separate charge, so if you purchase your lunches one at a time they will be $.50 more expensive. If instead you put $50 or $100 on account using this feature (one .$50 charge) then you can buy your lunches one at a time from your Ki’s account without that extra charge.

Paying by Check

You may also pay by check, however we must have the check ahead of you ordering so that we may place the money on your in-store account for you. You may mail the check to us:
Ki’s School Lunches
2591 South Coast Highway 101
Cardiff, CA 92007

Placing an Order

To place an order push the “Place Order” button next to the member name. The school calendar for that member will appear. You may order one lunch at a time, or lunches for the next two months, or anything in between. Once you have selected the entrees for each day simply scroll to the bottom of the calendar page and press the Checkout button (you can also click on another members name if you wish to go to another member and order for them).

Please be sure to continue reading each page and clicking on Checkout until you reach the Print Order page. You will receive a confirmation email stating the food that was ordered if you have correctly completed the checkout process.

Orders need to be placed by 12:00 noon the day before (except for Monday’s orders, we allow you to order up till 11:00 PM Sunday night). The website will allow you to place an order after the cut-off with a Late Fee. The order must be placed online before 8:00 AM (some items must be ordered earlier, for example Salads must be ordered before 6:00 AM). If it is after 8:00 AM your child is welcome to go to our lunch line and receive an “emergency lunch” (specified below). Like any order you will receive an automated email specifying the lunch, and stating the surcharge was added for this service.

Canceling an Order

Canceling an order is as easy as placing an order, and you can cancel an order up to 8:00 AM the day the order is to be delivered (we’re sorry but after that time we cannot give credit). Simply click on the Cancel Order button next to your child’s name. The days you currently have food ordered for will display the entree you selected and there will be a Cancel Order button within that day. When you click on that button a pop-up will appear. Click on OK and the money for that order will be credited to your Ki’s School Lunches account for use on future orders. You will also receive an Order Canceled confirmation email.

Changing an Order

Changing an order can be a bit complicated. If you are changing to an item which is the exact same price OR if you have enough excess money in your account to pay for the change it is as easy as placing an order, and you can change an order up to 8:00 AM the day the order is to be delivered (we’re sorry but after that time we cannot accept changes). Simply click the Change Order button next to your child’s name. The days you currently have food ordered will display the entree you selected and there will be a Change Order button within that day. When you click on that button the Change Order screen will appear. Use the pull-downs to change the order and Click on Submit Changes. The money will be deducted from your in-store account and a record of the transaction will go onto your Account History page.
If you are making a change that will result in additional charges there are two scenarios:
1. If you have enough money in your in-store account the change can be made just like described above.

2. If you do not have enough money you can:

a. Add money to your account using the “Add Money to my Account” button on your Ordering page prior to making the change.

b. Click on Change Order and select the changes. After you click on OK this will cancel your previous order and require you to Checkout and use your credit card to pay for the changes.

Late Lunches Ordered After the Cutoff

We are happy to accept orders placed after the ordering deadline with a “late fee”. If the order is placed before 8:00 AM the day of the lunch you can order online and choose the entree your child will receive, if it is after 8:00 AM your child will receive the “emergency lunch” for the day. Like any order you will receive an automated email specifying the lunch, and stating the surcharge was added for this service.
